COMMUNITIES AT THE HEART OF PEARL FARM

A Community Woven Into Every Experience

Pearl Farm Beach Resort is more than a destination — it is a place shaped by people, tradition, and shared stories.

Long before it became a resort, this island was home to communities that cared for the land and sea with deep respect. Today, Pearl Farm continues that legacy by working closely with the people of Samal and Mindanao, ensuring that culture, livelihoods, and hospitality grow together.

Through partnerships with local artisans, farmers, fisherfolk, and team members from neighboring communities, the spirit of the island lives on in every experience we create.

Every guest who visits becomes part of this story — one rooted in connection, care, and genuine Filipino warmth.

Celebrating Indigenous Roots

Honouring the Culture That Makes Us Who We Are

Pearl Farm’s identity is deeply shaped by the rich cultural heritage of the Philippines, particularly the traditions of Mindanao. From architectural elements inspired by indigenous houses to carefully curated cultural expressions throughout the resort, Pearl Farm reflects the artistry, wisdom, and living traditions of the region’s indigenous communities.

This commitment comes to life through meaningful collaborations with local artisans. The Mandaya weavers create the intricate Dagmay textiles that bring warmth and authenticity to many of the resort’s interiors, while the renowned T’boli Dreamweavers continue their centuries-old tradition of producing T’nalak, the sacred abaca cloth whose patterns are believed to come through dreams. Through TADECO’s livelihood partnerships with indigenous communities, these traditions also extend into handcrafted baskets, trays, and other functional pieces that guests encounter throughout the resort.

Across Pearl Farm, elements of Maranao heritage further enrich the cultural landscape. Traditional drums, decorative wall plates, and intricately crafted objects such as gadur containers and panolong carvings reflect the refined artistic language of the Lake Lanao region. The flowing Okir patterns, a defining visual language of Maranao art, are present throughout many of these pieces and have also inspired the design of Pearl Farm’s own logo, creating a subtle yet meaningful link between the resort’s identity and the cultural traditions that surround it.

By embracing these traditions and working directly with the communities who sustain them, Pearl Farm helps ensure that these cultural expressions continue to thrive with dignity, respect, and pride, allowing guests to experience not only a place of natural beauty but a living story of heritage and craftsmanship

Inclusive Opportunities

Creating pathways to growth through education, skills, and meaningful work

At Pearl Farm, people are the soul of the island and the heart of every experience we create. Many of our team members come from neighboring communities across Samal and the surrounding coastal areas, reflecting our commitment to local employment and the belief that the warmth of our hospitality begins with the people of the island itself.

Through inclusive hiring and long-standing partnerships with community organizations, we help open pathways from education to meaningful careers. In collaboration with the Cristina Foundation and the Antonio O. Floirendo Foundation (AOFF), we support scholarship programs, skills development initiatives, and education partnerships that empower young people and local families to build a future within the hospitality industry. Our partnership with the Cristina Foundation also supports meaningful employment opportunities for individuals with Down syndrome, several of whom are part of our team through dedicated employment arrangements.

We also work closely with universities and educational institutions across the region through on-the-job training programs, welcoming students into the resort to gain hands-on experience within a five-star hospitality environment. These collaborations allow aspiring professionals to apply their knowledge in a real-world setting while discovering the standards, discipline, and spirit of service that define our industry. Many of these young talents have later returned to Pearl Farm as full-time team members after completing their studies, continuing their professional journey with us, and reinforcing our culture of professional development.

Our inclusive approach also extends to individuals with diverse abilities, ensuring that opportunities within the resort remain open and meaningful to all. By nurturing skills, building confidence, and honoring each person’s strengths, we create a workplace grounded in inclusive opportunities, where everyone can contribute, grow, and belong.

Our team members are more than employees. They are custodians of our heritage, storytellers of our culture, and the living spirit of the Pearl Farm experience.

FROM LAND, SEA & CRAFT

Sustaining the Community That Sustains Us

Fresh ingredients and authentic flavours at Pearl Farm begin with the people and waters of Samal and the nearby Davao communities. Each day, our team goes directly to the local market and coastal landing points, selecting the morning’s catch from our partner FISHERFOLK and sourcing seasonal produce from TRUSTED GROWERS we have worked with for years.

Our coffee follows the same journey, locally sourced green beans, carefully roasted in-house, transforming regional harvests into a signature part of the Pearl Farm experience while supporting LOCAL LIVELIHOODS. Seafood arrives daily from small-scale FISHERFOLK, while vegetables and fruits come from nearby farms and growers across the region, allowing our menus to celebrate the vibrant ingredients and culinary traditions of Mindanao.

This close relationship with the community extends far beyond the kitchen and into the very fabric of the resort itself. Many of the natural materials that shape the architecture and atmosphere of Pearl Farm are crafted and supplied by LOCAL SPECIALIZED CONTRACTORS and ARTISANS who work with traditional materials such as nipa, bamboo panels, crushed bamboo, and handwoven amakan. These materials form the textures and finishes that give the resort its distinct sense of place, reflecting both the craftsmanship of local communities and the architectural vision inspired by the cultures and landscapes of Mindanao.

Through partnerships with TADECO Livelihood and TADECO Home, local artisans and community enterprises also contribute handcrafted pieces used throughout the resort’s interiors. Baskets, trays, containers, and decorative elements found in guest rooms and public spaces are sourced through these initiatives, allowing traditional skills to become part of the guest experience while supporting sustainable livelihoods for the families who produce them.

By working closely with farmers, fisherfolk, craftsmen, and community enterprises, Pearl Farm nurtures long-term relationships that ensure authenticity, quality, and shared growth. This deep connection with our surrounding communities not only supports regional livelihoods but also preserves traditional materials and crafts that continue to shape the identity of the resort.

Scholarship to Employment

Empowering the Next Generation
